Right
Watson gave me some info on this already
Lossless usually means that there is no gaps in between the tracks, not recorded in DAO mode.
Cause even if you do that there is still a small gap in the tracks, but the source is usually direct copy from cd, shn, flac, wav etc.
I still am not 100% sure what it is?
Is it one large wav/shn/flac file containing a full gig and when burnt onto cd, track markers are used.
If any one has any info or links for info on this it would be appreciated
Basically when you get an SHN, FLAC, or APE file, you decompress them to wave files, put it in your favorite burning program. If its nero, then take out the 2 second gaps, and burn DAO
This will take out all the gaps and things.
Usually when there are gaps, its done from mp3's, even if you take out the 2 second gaps, there is still a small gap, this is because mp3 is shitty quality. Is ok for listening to, and playing, but for bootleg traders, its just something they dont accept.
Here is a good guide on what SHN files are
http://research.umbc.edu/~hamilton/shnfaq.html
If your doing A direct copy from a CD, then make sure you do it in DAO mate, you may be getting gaps if its not done in that.
You should use EAC also for copying discs that aint mp3 sourced, and this does an Exact Audio Copy of them, just do a google search for it.
I aint 100% clued up on it meself either, but I know a wee bit :D

so basically if I download an album(lets say 10 tracks) in shn/flac format.
I will have 10 files, I convert them to wav and then burn them to cd as dao
yeah, and take out the 2 second gap also if using nero
Except for the 1st track.

if i converted some mp3's back to wav files will this make a lossless bootleg
Loseless audio format has to do with algorithm used to create the file.
When you create mp3 file the algorithm used is written so that the 'non-important' frequencies of the audio are eliminated thus allowing the file to be smaller in size than it would be if they were not.
Mp3 is designed to compress data of original file into more manageable size. The eliminated frequencies are considered to result in loss of only unimportant data, but to those who very much demand quality of the original audio be maintained, they are considered poor quality.
In lossless formats the algorithm is written so that all frequencies of original audio are maintained thus more accurately replicating the original quality of audio.
Lossless format has nothing to do with spaces between songs on cd. Spaces are created by program used to make cd.
If you have performance made in lossless format it can be made in way that each song is own file or all songs in one large file. It depends on person who created lossless file.
There will naturally be spaces between songs if they occured in original file. The can be shorted by removing spaces between files on cd, but if there is silence near end of file it will be reflected on cd and make it seem that there is space between songs.
Reverting mp3 files back to wave files will not reinstall lost data (frequencies) of mp3 file.
Personally I do not believe that most people can detect difference in sound quality of well made mp3 file and file created in lossless format algorithm.
I am hoping this adds to other's understanding of lossless format.

if i converted some mp3's back to wav files will this make a lossless bootleg
Difinetly not. I know some people have done this.
There are simple ways to check them now
