Here is a Quick easy guide on how to make a simple dvd menu in TMPGenc DVD Author.
1. Load up DVD Author, and click on Create New Project
http://www.bootleg.org.uk/images/guides/dvdauthor/1.jpg
2. Next Click on Add DVD Video (or if your files are on the HDD then select add file)
http://www.bootleg.org.uk/images/guides/dvdauthor/2.jpg
3. Now Select the folder you are wanting to put on the dvd, this is the VIDEO_TS folder of the DVD you
have in your DVD drive (or have downloaded)
4. A New window will now appear once you have selected the desired folder(this may take a few seconds depending
on the speed of your computer/drive)
http://www.bootleg.org.uk/images/guides/dvdauthor/3.jpg
5. It has giver me several tracks to add to DVD author, as I know track 1 will be the main gig, due to its
length, I will add this one 1st
6. On the next screen it will give you option settings, Reading chapter info should already be ticked, if not,
tick it (this will read any chapters that are premade on the dvd)
7. Now tick the Copy files to HDD, this will increase the speed if your working direct from a dvd
http://www.bootleg.org.uk/images/guides/dvdauthor/4.jpg
8. Click OK
http://www.bootleg.org.uk/images/guides/dvdauthor/5.jpg
9. Go make yerself a cup of tea, cause it can sometimes take a wee while
10. A New screen will now appear, just click ok, and we can go back into this screen in a minute.
http://www.bootleg.org.uk/images/guides/dvdauthor/6.jpg
11. If you had more than 1 file you would like to add (i.e. your extras on the DVD) then follow steps 2-10 again for each of the files. If not then follow the next step
12. Click on the edit button as shown in the Image below
http://www.bootleg.org.uk/images/guides/dvdauthor/7.jpg
This will bring up a familiar screen again
13. Click on the Chapter Cut Edit tab at the top of the screen, and this will bring up the following screen
http://www.bootleg.org.uk/images/guides/dvdauthor/8.jpg
Down the Right hand side is where the start of your chapters will begin (I usually try and do it for the start of a song)
And along the bottom is where you will select your chapters
14. Now the easiest way I find to get to the start of the next song is to watch it in a program (dvd author, WMP, etc) and then find a screen that you will recognise easily at the end of a song. And then scroll the scroll bar on the DVD Author, where you select your chapters, slide this along to the position you want for your chapter.
http://www.bootleg.org.uk/images/guides/dvdauthor/9.jpg
you will see in i) that the Colour of that frame is Red, this means that it is ok to put in a chapter here.
In ii) you will see that the slider has moved along, this is what you will use to choose chapters (and the play rewind fastforward buttons)
Next you will click iii) and this will create your new chapter. Remember, that this is the 2nd chapter, so it will be the 2nd song on the DVD.

You should now have 2 Chapters. Repeat this process till you get all of the chapters you need
15. Once you have added all you chapters click on ok
16. Now click on the Create Menu Tab, and you can now have some fun heh
http://www.bootleg.org.uk/images/guides/dvdauthor/11.jpg
17. Here you will change the layout, and the images of the actual menu you create. It is probably best to fool around in here, to do things.
Clicking on the Edit Menu Theme will allow you into change the graphics and such to how you want it.
This is limited in how you can customize it, but go ahead and put in your background, choose your fonts, name the title, name you tracklistings.
18. Next you want to move everything about and have it how you want it to look.
19. Once you have everything in place, and how you want it, click on the Menu Display Settings tab at the top
And then click on the motion menu tab. If you want to use a motion menu highlight which parts you would like to use, what this will do, is in the tracklistings, and main page part, if you have your tracklistings as thumbnails, then they will be animated showing a small part of the video. Do not make this too big, as it will take up a lot of the dvd size.

20. Now click on the general tab, and choose what you want to display, most of the time I do a Main menu and tracklisting, as thats what I created. And I display main menu on 1st play, and track after track.
http://www.bootleg.org.uk/images/guides/dvdauthor/13.jpg
All of these settings can be set before you begin if you want
21. Click ok
22. Click ok to confirm your menu settings
23. Next Click on Output, and then Click on Begin Output.
