THE STROKES have given NME their last interview after winding up their year of touring ‘ROOM ON FIRE’ – and revealed that it could be a long time before their third album surfaces.

In an exclusive, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr told NME.COM that while they are heading back to New York to record with Gordon Raphael, they are in no hurry to rush anything out.

He said: "You always set a schedule for yourself. A little bit of pressure always works a little better but I mean there's no set time. In our heads we have certain ideals we want to accomplish. But that's all, (it) could be five years. I don't want to [stay away that long]. I just don't like saying – I'd rather say five and have it be two than me saying one and it be three."

However, he did hint that they already have between five and ten songs written. "I would say a good amount right now. I don't want to put a number on it. It's more quality than quantity, even if it's just like one, you put out that one. That makes it more exciting than having 30 shitty songs.

"These ones are even more extreme. They are like third record songs. It's nice to see that – it means the progress is still going. We have a lot of work to do and it's so easy to talk about working and so hard to actually do it."

I think that that is kind of a bad move, becauese what you want to do is release a lot of alright albums and a some good ones. Of course it would be nice to only release stellar albums, but that would take forever.

i think the strokes want to be known as a quality band tho, and only want to release quality albums! i think its a good idea that there willing to wait to release a quality album, but as a fan its a bit of a bad idea too cause i wouldn't mind hearing new stuff, but the 2 albums came out quickly tho!
